Goings-on at the Raven Cafe | Blue Bayou, The Lost Boys, Jonathon Best (squared), and Halloween Print E-mail
by Newt Lynn

Just got back from seeing Wes Anderson's new film, The Darjeeling Limited. It's great, and I highly advise seeing it on the big screen.

This past weekend was huge, and the coming week is bigger, so I'll skip most of the intro and get right to business.

Monday:  Ben and Miguel have something special planned for you, and they told me all about it, but I forgot most of what they said (It was a long, busy day), but I remember something about Blue in the title and I love that old Roy Orbison song Blue Bayou, so we'll call it that.  The Blue Bayou menu will be great...I promise, and Jonathon Best will be in playing the old upright.  6pm

Tuesday:  Keifer Sutherland has made a many a film, but his best by far...The Lost Boys will be our Tuesday Night Movie.  Also starring the Corey's (Haim and Feldman), so how can you go wrong?  8:30pm

Wednesday:  Halloween...I know a lot of you came out to the Masquerade Ball Benefit on Saturday, but don't put your costumes up just yet.  We've got a big night planned.  Deadly Dinner Specials, DJ Angelo spinning from 6pm to 8pm, and then...King Bee and The Snappin' Turtles featuring Newt Lynn, Ben Dickey, Adam Schrader, and, flying in from Philly just to play the event, Drew Mills.  There'll be a lot of dancing, and a costume contest to boot.  Make plans, hire a babysitter, or bring the kids.  Dara and Jared are burning the midnight oil decorating as I type this.  Evening starts at 6pm

Friday:  Jonathon Best and Rhule.  Jon always has something going, and this is his newest project...sort of a reggae experiment.  They will be playing their first show at The Raven so come out and support the eclectic variety of music that Jon is bringing to our community.  8pm

Saturday:  The Prescott Playboys, and ... Come by at any point this week and you'll see new artwork by Judd Schiffman.  Judd has hung the most colorful show we've had to date, and we're glad to have his work added to our gallery.  The Prescott Playboys will be playing the reception, which will be an absolute blast.  We've got a lot of friends coming in from out of town to see Ben in all of his cowboy glory, and the dancing will be plentiful, so you won't want to miss it.  7pm -

Sunday Brunch:  Jonathon Best will be playing a brunch set starting at 10am.  Does that seem like a lot of Jonathon this week?  It is, but he makes every show different, and we love him.

I think that's enough for this week.  A quick preview for next week.  Tuesday night will be Newt's birthday, and Monday dinner's are moving to Tuesday.  You know what that means...Southern Food.

Album of The Week...Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds "The Boatman's Call".  Sure, Nick can be dark at times, but this is Halloween week, and this album is purely amazing.  It's all I've been listening to the past week.  Check it out.

Goings-on at the Raven Cafe | Week of 10-24 Print E-mail
by Newt Lynn
I know, I know, I've left you hanging, and I can assure you everything about the situation was beyond my control.  A fan burnt up in my computer and then I was trapped for two days in a house without internet access or ability to communicate with the outside world.  Suffice it to say I plotted my escape carefully, and ultimately, successfully.  You are a little behind in information for the week, but I'll do my best to get you up to speed.

Wednesday:  DJ Adam Schrader spins a revival set of all the classics you forgot you loved so much.

Friday:  From San Diego and Los Angeles...The Softlightes will be playing their first show at the Raven.  It's a little Belle and Sebastian, it's a little Bright Eyes.  8:00pm

Saturday:  Lydia Parr is putting on another of her fantastically exciting events at the Raven.  This one is to benefit the Women's Community Resource Center and WEB.  It's a pre-halloween masquerade ball with DJ Allen Huddlestlon spinning.  The event is free and open to all.  8pm

Forthcoming:  Halloween on the 31st of October at the Raven.  King Bee and The Snappin Turtles, a costume contest, and DJ Angelo.  The evening kicks off at 7pm.

Album of the week:  Holly Golightly "My First Holly Golightly Album"...Check it out.

Until Again
