The Kingfisher's Gala helps bring Prescott free public art (plus it's the best ever date night!) Print E-mail

Tsunami on the Square is beginning to celebrate their upcoming 10th Anniversary 2008 Festival on Sunday, November 18th from 6-9pm at the Raven Cafe in Prescott at their annual gala benefit dinner and performance, The Kingfisher's Harvest!

Attendees enjoy a delicious, gourmet five-course menu created especially for this festive event, featuring foods of the harvest, including a glass of wine. The brilliant and local Moving Edge Ensemble is on stage throughout the evening, beginning at 6pm. Woven in-between courses are short performances by the enigmatic and captivating Human Nature Dance Theatre.

Fine Art raffle tickets are on sale for $10.00 each. Items are valued
between $400-$1200. They include:
A framed figure drawing by John Henry Waddell, Arizona artist and master sculptor, a stained glass piece by Chris Boyle, Tsunami Board member and performer. and an acrylic painting by Judd Schiffman (work currently on display at the Raven). This evening has been called 'Prescott's Best Ever-Date Night'!!
A five course meal and wine, live music and dance performances by Arizona's leading artists, in a vibrant setting for $50.00 per ticket. Proceeds go to Tsunami on the Square.

Annual World AIDS Day Builds Community Awareness on Dec. 1 Print E-mail

This year, World AIDS Day is Saturday, December 1, 2007. On that day, across the globe, across the country, across Arizona, and in our hometown, people will gather to commemorate the lives of nearly 25 million men, women and children who have perished, and acknowledge the nearly 40 million people world-wide currently infected with HIV. Once again Northland Cares is planning multi-dimensional community activities and, of course, its annual World AIDS Day Breakfast to memorialize and celebrate all of the lives of people who have been impacted by the pandemic. Northland Cares will be the hub for all the community’s activities including the unveiling of an interactive art exhibition, and our evening vigil, and a bigger, brighter World AIDS Day Annual Breakfast.

Lopas wins the Prescott City Council seat Print E-mail

Supporters of Lora Lopas got their first whiff of solid victory in the runoff election when a representative from the County Recorder's office announced: "There are still just shy of 200 ballots to count. It will not make a difference."

Of 13,521 (58.6 percent of registered voters) ballots cast, Councilman Steve Blair garnered 6,334  and Lora Lopas 7,041.

Ninth Circuit Court Allows Review In Legal Case of Recycled Sewage On Sacred Mountain Print E-mail

The 9th Circuit Court has granted the U.S. Forest Service and an Arizona ski resort the opportunity for review of the court's decision on March 12th, 2007 that had provided protection for a mountain held holy by more than 13 Native American Nations. The slopes of the San Francisco Peaks, located in Northern Arizona, have been at the center of a historical and lengthy battle that has pitted economic interests on public lands against environmental integrity, public health and cultural survival. A small local ski resort proposed a plan to expand and use treated waste effluent to make fake snow. However, their development has been halted due to the Ninth Circuit Court ruling, which has been hailed as a victory for Religious Freedom, Environmental Justice & Cultural Survival.
