(P)59TH ANNUAL KIWANIS AUCTION. It's that time of year again! Time to gather forces for the youth of our communities. The 59th Annual Kiwanis Auction, the longest continuously running community fundraiser, will raise funds for local youth service projects in Prescott and surrounding communities.The Auction is a cooperative effort of the Kiwanis Clubs of Prescott, Prescott Valley, Bradshaw Mountain and Big Bug Creek.Last year local merchants, businesses and professionals donated goods and services that enabled Kiwanis to raise almost $175,000 thus allowing the four Kiwanis Clubs to contribute more to community youth projects and non-profit organizations.You can help! Show your civic pride as an auction donor. You can donate merchandise, services, gift certificates or cash to the Kiwanis Auction. The donated items will be sold during the Auction which will be broadcast on live TV and radio for ten consecutive weeknights from  April 2 - 6. Donations may also be tax deductible.

(P)Prescott Public Library's "Just for Grownups" International Film Series premieres Tuesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. with Madeinusa, directed by Claudia Llosa. An international award winner, this film was also an official selection of the Sundance and Tribeca film Festivals. Madeinusa is a girl aged 17 with a sweet Indian face who lives in an isolated village in the Cordillera Blanca Mountain range of Peru. This strange place is characterized by its religious fervor. What effect can we expect from the arrival of Salvador, a young geologist from Lima? How will he change Madeinusa's destiny? As one of over 1200 events being held throughout the nation on April 14 to bring attention to global climate change, you are invited to join local Sierra Club members on a walk from Ken Lindley Field to the Prescott overlook located in Acker Park. We will discuss solutions that individuals, businesses, and local and national governments can take to reduce global warming greenhouse gas emissions; while at the same time saving money. We will take in the view of our Prescott in its mountain setting of trees, creeks, and clear skies; reflecting on what could happen to all of this if we do not take action. There will be a global warming quiz with energy saving prizes for correct answers. Alternative forms of transportation will be on display. Meet at 9 AM in the Ken Lindley Field parking lot (Arizona Ave.) next to the Old Armory (Grace Sparks Activity Center) 800 block E. Gurley St., Prescott, AZ. National Library Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide. The Food for Fines program allows anyone owing fines to the library to pay them off with non-perishable food items. Each item is worth $1 toward a fine, with a maximum of five items. (P)James Cushing, winner of Renegade Magazine’s 1994 “Warlord of the Subculture” Award, has published three full-length collections of his poetry, You and the Night and the Music, The Length of an Afternoon, and Undercurrent Blues. Of his second book, The Length of an Afternoon, Michael C. Ford declares that Cushing “writes with brave, bold, noble strokes of poetic integrity.” His poemsand essays have appeared in such publications as Antioch Review, California Quarterly, Denver Quarterly, Massachusetts Review and Yabolusha Review, as well as in The Second Set, a jazz-poetry anthology edited by Yusef Komunyakaa. Cushing holds a doctorate in English from the University of California Irvine and teaches literature and writing at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. (P)Taking It To the Next Level: Yoga Teacher Training - Yoga Shala Announces 200 and 500 hr Certification Program for Fall 2007. Local enthusiasts interested in getting certified to teach yoga will have the opportunity to do so this Fall. Cain Carroll of Prescott’s Yoga Shala will be offering a 200 hour standard and 500 hour advanced program beginning in August 2007. The advanced Yoga Teacher Training is one of only a handful of such programs offered in the state of Arizona. The 200 hour standard Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program will begin in August of 2007. (PV)The Town of Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer Mud Puppies, a special beginning level pottery program for kids ages six to 12. Elementary students will learn the techniques of clay art including wheel throwing, sculpture, preparation, glazing and kiln firing. All supplies included! Cost of each class is $40. Participants will learn some of the Hawaiian language, culture, values and the dances of Hawaii with instructor Kehau Chrisman . The C Bar C Doggie Dude Ranch at 3900 Willow Creek Road extends an invitation to their Yappy Hour on April 26, 4-7PM. Then, on May 5, the DDR will host a Dog Wash – a fundraising event with all proceeds going to Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy (NELA) and the Yavapai Humane Society. In partnership with NELA instructors, the DDR has created a curriculum of study for NELA students that will include event-planning, fundraising, business skills, as well as pet care. Under the direct supervision of DDR owners, Daniel and Shelly Gilliam, trained, dog-savvy NELA students will provide dog-baths (incl. ears & nails), play-park sessions, and kenneling care – while developing their business and customer service skills! Sign-ups will begin at the Yappy Hour; prices are $15 or $25, depending on size/coat of dog.

A percentage of the diners' tab that day goes to Northland Cares, which provides medical care and support services to individuals with HIV/AIDS throughout the county and northern Arizona.
