Frank Hammon's story is Arizona's story. Although he lived an unspectacular life in an unremarkable way, his experiences represent thousands of undocumented tales depicting frontier life. Like many territorial pioneers, Frank exhibited the same gritty toughness and relentless tenacity that built the territory. However, few pioneers had the time, education, or inclination to document their experiences.
His sketchy chronicles provide a blueprint that Susan Clardy has used to explore, examine, and document how her great-grandfather fit into this complex society. Join us at Prescott Public Library on Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. to learn more about Sometimes the Blues: The Letters and Diaries of Frank Hammon, a Lonely Frontiersman in Globe and Phoenix, 1882-1889. A book signing will follow the talk; copies of the book will be available.
Prescott Public Library is located at 215 East Goodwin Street in downtown Prescott. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://www.prescottlibrary.info/or call 928-777-1500.
