Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Founders Suite at Prescott Public Library. Join Mad Women Mary Bragg, Dee Hamilton, Susan McElheran and Kathy Parker with guests Amy Calhoun and Catherine Wind Euler to experience a round-robin reading of poems offering a kaleidoscope of voices, ideas and images.
The Mad Women Poets encompass multiple generations and come from every corner of the country, from Brooklyn to Oregon and Arkansas to Vermont. Their work ranges through such subjects as family memories and woes, the cycles of life, good and bad marriages, the cutting sorrows of the working class and new love.
The Mad Women Poets honor and expand the oral tradition in poetry, reading in round-robin fashion so that audiences listen to one or two poems then experience the next poet in a vibrant, compelling performance. They always hope there is a budding poet in the audience, or that someone will be motivated to read a book of poems.
The Mad Woman Poets began their collaboration in 2003 with the idea of performing together and publishing an anthology of poems. This anthology, “The Woman Beside You,” was published in 2004 and has since gone through three printings. The book can be purchased at The Worm Bookstore in Prescott, or from Susan McElheran, 928-445-0976. A portion of the proceeds benefit language-based non-profit progrrams.
Prescott Public LIbrary is located at 215 East Goodwin Street in downtown Prescott. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 777-1500.
