It's been a long time since hot air balloons have visited Prescott Valley, but they are making a comeback. n Saturday, May 5 at 7 p.m. these beautiful, bright orbs will begin inflation around Tim's Event Center. They will participate in a balloon glow, where the balloons remain on the ground and light up the night. The public is welcome to walk up to them, inspect them and meet the pilots. There almost aren't words to describe a glow. Imagine being a Lilliputian and walking around giant luminaria that tower over you. The pilots will synchronize their burns so all are lit up at the same time, creating a spectacular display for color and fire. Please join us for this memorable event. Sat 12th May (P)The Highlands Center for Natural History will celebrate the opening of the James Learning Center with a Community Day Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located on its campus in the Prescott National Forest, the James Learning Center is an example of how man and nature can integrate with minimal impact on natural resources. Design and construction focused on working with nature to provide heat, cooling and light and unused building materials were recycled rather than going to the landfill. The building relies entirely on solar power for electrical power and is in the process of receiving national certification as a green building. Over 240 artists combined will present their work at the 33rd Annual Show & Sale, as well as the Fourth Annual Miniature Masterpieces: a "show within a show" in which premiere Western artists display pieces that tend to be smaller in size, often serving as studies for larger works. Now in its third year, the Camp will delve into kid-friendly dishes for ages seven to eighteen. Each class focuses on its own theme. "5 Countries in Five Days" explores traditional dishes from five different countries. "More Fabulous Flash Foods" adds to the recipe collection of this popular class from last year. "Amazing Four Ingredient Recipes" explores simple but satisfying recipes, and "Cooking with Dr. Seuss" spices recipes with humor. Each class begins with kitchen safety and knife skill lessons and ends with a family celebration. The cost per session is $180. $25 deposit (non-refundable) – holds a spot in the class and applies towards session. Total must be paid 2 weeks before the class. The class is called "Triple Threat Aerobics" and will include a warm up, 30 minutes of cardiovascular activities, 25 minutes of toning including special ab exercises. Basic equipment needed for this class is as follows: set of weights, mat (optional), ball and step, (optional). The cost of the program is $56 for 16 classes. Classes begin April 12, 2007 and run through June 5, 2007.
