ALL MY SONS opens at Prescott Fine Arts Association
When Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Arthur Miller died last year, the world lost a major talent. Prescott Fine Arts Association is celebrating his work with a new production of one of his first plays. While he will probably be best known for DEATH OF A SALESMAN, his first success was the powerful ALL MY SONS, which opens on June 14, 2007 in the PFAA theatre.
As the play opens, World War II is over and economy is humming along with great energy and success. The main characters share in this success achieved during the war and harbor some secrets about that period in their lives. Joe Keller is an aircraft factory owner dealing with family issues and past nightmares. Kate Keller, his wife, grieves the death of one of her sons, a pilot lost in the war, by attempting to deny the fact that his plane went down. Her other son, Chris, falls in love with the pilot's girlfriend, and this love affair causes his mother and father additional pain.
The war, however, dominates the play with the sins of the fathers in conflict with the postwar idealism of the sons. Love, war, guilt and responsibility are some of the themes that lead to the intense final moments of the play that you will not soon forget. As you will discover, these themes are particularly timely in 2007, sixty years after the debut of this electrifying drama. You'll understand why ALL MY SONS won the New York Drama Critics Circle award and two Tony awards in1947.
