The Raven has just confirmed an amazing show for July 7. Howe Gelb and Victoria Williams! Howe is the frontman for Giant Sand, a band that gave birth to Calexico as a side project. He discovered M. Ward with whom he frequently collaborates, and works regularly with Neko Case, PJ Harvey, Richard Buckner, Lucinda Williams, and Cat Power to name a few. Victoria Williams is a legend in her own time. Her appearances have achieved a cult status bolstered by the fact that artists such as Lou Reed, Pearl Jam, and Lucinda Williams have all had hits with her songs. Howe and Victoria are old friends who haven't gotten to see much of one another lately, so we thought we might bring them together. One night only, Howe Gelb and Victoria Williams will be together on our stage. You won't see this anywhere else, and because of the intimate nature of the event and venue we will be selling tickets. $10 advance / $12 door. Folks are going to be coming in from all over, and we are anticipating quickly selling out, so we are encouraging you to get your tickets early... call 928-717-0009 or Come By.
Monday: Ben and Miguel are back in action for a night of German inspired fare. Some of you may be asking, "German?" Let me assure you there is a lot more to it than kraut and brautwerst. Did you know that Apricot cobbler comes from Germany? Now, there is a good chance I am only partially right about that, but we've got it anyway. Let's just call it fusion. Whatever your notion is toward German food, prepare to enjoy the Raven's version. I mean, it's Ben and Miguel...whatever they make is going to be awesome. Debbie is also adding a few specials to the dessert list (see cobbler, etc.). Tuesday: Director's month continues with Jean-Pierre Jeunet's "Amelie"...one of the best movie's made in the last 20 years (I am stating that as a fact). 8:30pm Friday: From Tempe...Dirty Lingo will be playing their first show at the Raven. Imagine Elliot Smith fronting Weezer if they were a Motown band. Curious...so am I. 8pm Saturday: O. Allen Huddleston spins an eclectic mix of ambient and downtempo.
