Prescott Public Library's "Just for Grownups" International Film Series continues Tuesday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m. with "Viva Cuba," from Cuba, directed by Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti. An international award winner, this film follows the adventures of Malú and Jorgito, two young friends who are determined to be together.
In a tale akin to Romeo and Juliet, the friendship between two children is threatened by their parents' differences. Malú is from an upper-class family, and her single mother does not want her to play with Jorgito, because she thinks his background is coarse and commonplace. Jorgito's mother, a poor socialist proud of her family's social standing, places similar restrictions on her son. What neither woman recognizes is the immense strength of the bond between Malú and Jorgito. When the children learn that Malú's mother is planning to leave Cuba, they decide to travel to the other side of the island to find Malú's father and persuade him against signing the forms that would allow it.
Join us on the first Tuesday of each month for another international award-winner. Coming August 7, "The Island," directed by Pavel Lounguine. All film programs are free and open to the public. Call 777-1500 for more information.
