Farmers Market Coming to Prescott Valley Print E-mail
by Press Release

Prescott Valley's M&I Bank is pleased to host the Prescott Valley Farmers Market beginning Thursday, July 19 from 4-8 pm at its location at 7221 E. Florentine Rd (corner of Glassford Hills and Florentine). The market will be held weekly through Oct. 11.

The Prescott Valley Farmers Market is part of the Prescott Farmers Market, a nonprofit agricultural cooperative that supports local farmers and agriculture. The market is a venue for the purchase of fresh, local vegetables and fruit, as well as other products, such as fresh cut flowers and herbs, jams and jellies, fresh baked goods, homemade tamales, BBQ and agricultural crafts.

"The market offers everything from lettuce, spinach, cucumbers and garlic to radishes, squash, tomatoes, turnips and much more," explained Jen Chandler, the market manager. "But it's also an opportunity for people to enjoy the fresh evening air, mingle with friends and neighbors, and build a connection to their food, and enjoy food grown and produced locally."

The market was invited to open in Prescott Valley by M&I Bank Manager Robert St. Clair.

"M&I Bank thought this was a great opportunity to help support local farmers bring fresh good to the community of Prescott Valley," St. Clair said.

Approximately 10 vendors are confirmed for the first market in Prescott Valley, including Whipstone Farm, Burnin' Daylight Farm, Chino Valley Farm, Celestial Gardens, Café de Dona Ella, De Cio Pasta, Mac's Snacks (pet snacks) and Jube's Firehouse BBQ, among others. More vendors are expected as the season progresses.

The market is dedicated to supporting local agriculture. Farmers and producers are only accepted from Yavapai and surrounding counties, and sellers produce all goods sold at the market. The market inspects all farms and production facilities to ensure the integrity of its "grower only" market.

"Shopping at the farmers market is a really great way for people to know who grow their food and it was grown," said Chandler. "And as a benefit, you're promoting economic development of agriculture in Yavapai County and enjoying fresh, affordable and high quality food."

The market accepts food stamps and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The FMNP offers checks to WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and Food Plus recipients to spend with the many vendors.
