Hold onto your pants, you're in for a fun-filled ride when The Underpants opens at Prescott Fine Arts. The Underpants, adapted and transformed by comedian Steve Martin from the 1911 Sternheim comedy called Die Hosen, is bawdy with bold characters exposing and manipulating themes of human frailty. Opening night is Thursday, July 26 with a public reception afterward and continues on July 27, 28, August 2,3, and 4 at 7:30 with two matinees July 29 and August 4 at 2 p.m.
Directed by Linda Miller, the original play was banned by both German imperial authorities and the Nazis. Lurking beneath the gleefully bawdy humor, and propelled by the ultimate "wardrobe malfunction", Steve Martin's adaptation brings to the surface themes of social commentary, our fascination with fame, our reliance on gender roles, and our enslavement by sex. (Adult themes and some adult language.)
Prices are: adults $16, youths 12 and under $11; matinees are adults $12 and youths $8. Please call for tickets at (928) 445-3286 or come to the office at 208 N. Marina, Prescott, Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
