The Highlands Center for Natural History Grow Native! Print E-mail
by Press Release

Fall Plant Sale happens on Saturday, September 22nd at 1375 S. Walker Rd. This fundraiser for the Center starts with a Member Preview from 7:30 – 9:00 am and is open to the general public from 9:00 – 12:00 pm. The Center is featuring 50 different species of regionally native plants. Fall is a perfect time to plant. According to Executive Director Nichole Trushell, “planting in the fall allows the plant to become established and you will reap the benefits next spring by planting now.”

The Center offers new varieties for the fall sale including, Purple Three Awn, White Guara, Night-Blooming Hesperaloe, and Cardinal Penstemon among many other species. For a complete list of plants, visit www.highlandscenter.org .

The Benson Family Nature Store is open for the plant sale. The store now features a selection of nature books, t-shirts, and note-cards. We have a selection of children’s books, nature t-shirts and kid-size backpacks. During the plant sale, we will have a selection of native wildflower and grass seeds for sale, as well as gardening related books and clothing.

The Center encourages payment by cash or check, since this is a fundraiser for the Center. Credit cards are accepted, but less of the profit will goes to support the programs of the Center. Come early and become a member on the morning of the sale for the best selection.

The Center has established two Grow Native! Plant Sales yearly to support the desire of the community to plant native and to raise funds for the Center. Join us on September 22. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your plant related questions and to guide you in your purchases.
