Connect Your Community, a Non-Profit and Community Service Expo benefiting the Ripple Project of Prescott College, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, at the Prescott College Crossroads Center, located off the alley behind the College's main buildings at 220 Grove Ave. Approximately 25 community organizations will be represented as well as various student groups that offer services to the greater community. Workshops relating to service work and procuring funding will be presented from 5 to 6 p.m. The public is welcome to all events free of charge.
Workshops include a grant-writing session for beginners which focuses on searching for grants, and a session for experienced grant writers which focuses on writing a winning proposal. These workshops will be led by the Non-Profit Resource Center of Northern Arizona and professionals in the field. Other workshops led by Prescott College alumni and community members include Effective Activism and Social Service vs. Social Change. Other activities include presentations on collaboration in community service; growing ideas into real social change; and out-of-the-box ways students and community members have been and can be involved in providing service. Music and refreshments will be provided, and there will be a non-profit scavenger hunt. There will also be a raffle with great prizes offered from participating non-profits.
Connect Your Community is an opportunity for local non-profits and service organizations to connect with each other and share what they do with the community. The event is meant to highlight all of the work that is being done locally to improve our society and environment. It also offers opportunities to discuss key issues in our community and how we can work together for solutions. Volunteers are a key component in our non-profit organizations and this event will showcase some of the ways that students and local citizens can become involved and really make a difference.
The Ripple Project is the community engagement and service learning center at Prescott College. The Ripple Project matches Prescott College students and other volunteers to non profit and community service organizations, working to achieve social change through service, and promoting experiential learning through civic engagement. The Ripple Project works with students and faculty to integrate local and international community service projects into the curriculum of Prescott College. All proceeds from this event will go to benefit the Ripple Project of Prescott College.
