The auction is an invitational event and includes works by distinguished artists from throughout the region and nation and works by celebrated artist alumni and retired faculty of the College. A selection of pieces can be previewed at the Raven Café, 142 N. Cortez Street, from Monday, October 8 through Wednesday, October 24.
All proceeds from the auction will support the renovation of the historic Sam Hill Warehouse into Prescott College's Visual Arts Center and dedicated Art Gallery which will showcase the work of nationally recognized artists and student exhibits. The Visual Arts Center will also house Prescott College's art studios, darkroom, digital lab, classrooms, and art archive. The Center will provide the College and greater Prescott community with opportunities to interact with visiting artists through workshops and other events as part of the College's formed Artist-in-Residence program.
The Sam Hill Warehouse, ca. 1903, is significant for its part in the economic growth of Prescott at the turn of the century and its association with one of the city's earliest businesses. In 1981 the Sam Hill Warehouse was restored and approved as a certified historic structure by the National Park Service and included in the National Register of Historic Places.
The first Prescott College Art Auction in 2001 was conceived by students as a fundraiser for the gallery. In 2005, the biennial event was renamed in honor of Rose Mary Mack, a painter, longtime resident of Prescott, and supporter of Prescott College. The first three auctions raised over $60,000 toward the renovation, and the 2007 auction will help complete the project. At this year's auction the first recipients of the Roseanne Cartledge Visual Arts Scholarship will be announced. For more information, please contact Arts and Letters Faculty Julie Comnick at
