by Press Release

The Town of Dewey-Humboldt has a very active voluntary Home Energy Program.

The Town offers educational programs on home Energy Savings, for those that are already built and for design into new construction. All are welcome; however, there are seating limitations with a cutoff at 30 attendees due to the room size.

At present, there are four (4), two-hour presentations:

Session 1:

Introduction to the Town Energy Savings Program

This discusses how a homeowner can make their present home more energy efficient, and describes the Energy Savings Program point system for builders of new homes. All energy items are designed to provide utility savings and improved comfort for the occupant of the home. This introductory course is where it all starts, get those crazy questions answered and learn how you can make a difference in your utility bills. There is more to it than lower utility bills; there are healthy home issues to look at.

Session 2:

Advanced Considerations in Home Energy Savings

We will look at Home Orientation, Hypo-allergenic materials, Alternate Building Materials, and Solar considerations, to mention a few. Sun angle calculations and sun shading are addressed. Eyebrows and Overhangs are part of passive solar design. We will discuss active solar design concepts such as water heating and voltaic systems. Many issues will be discussed with specifics in design concepts to assist in the design of a well functioning home.

Session 3:

The Rater Process for Energy Star and LEEDS

Guest Speaker is Justin Erickson from E3 Energy Inc. of Flagstaff,. Justin will discuss the process of having a home rated for ENERGY STAR or LEEDS certification. Rated structures are at least 15% more efficient than a standard home and are eligible for Tax Incentives and Tax Credits.

Session 4:

The Tax Credits and Tax Incentives

There are Local, State and Federal Tax Credits and Tax Incentives in place. APS has over 2,000,000 available and the funds have not been touched.

All Presentations will be held at the Town Hall Council Chambers at 2:00 P.M.

Introduction October 10

Advanced October 17

Rater Process October 24

Tax Credits October 31

With sufficient interest we can continue the educational program with guest speakers and development of specific areas of design and construction.
