Mad about poetry? The Mad Women Poets invite you to a hands-on, action-packed poetry workshop at Prescott Public Library, 215 East Goodwin Street, Saturday, October 13 at 10 a.m. Anyone 12 years old and up is welcome to take part in the fun. Poets Dee Hamilton, Susan McElheran, Susan DeFreitas and Mary Bragg will be on hand to guide you through intriguing writing exercises and open mic poetry sharing. Call 777-1537 for more information about this free program.
The Mad Women Poets encourage budding poets in their work. They encompass multiple generations and come from every corner of the country, from Brooklyn to Oregon and Arkansas to Vermont. Their work ranges through such subjects as family memories and woes, the cycles of life, good and bad marriages, the cutting sorrows of the working class and new love. The Mad Woman Poets began their collaboration in 2003 with the idea of performing together and publishing an anthology of poems. They read in round-robin fashion, so that audiences listen to one or two poems then experience the next poet in a vibrant, compelling performance, and often include an open mic session as part of the event. Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to discover, explore and share the poet inside you.
