Raven Cafe Goings-on | Mediterraneanan Monday, Jon Best, Axe Murderer's, Luca, Shri, and Chris Koza Print E-mail
by Newt Lynn

First let me say thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this past week so exciting for us.  We just wrapped up our first wedding reception at The Raven, and it was a blast.  We would like to offer our congratulations to Cindy and Steve from High Gear Bicycles.  They are great friends of ours and we wish them the very best.

Now...On to this weeks business at hand.  My typing hand has mended from last weeks accident, and on the relative scheme of things it's still pretty early in the evening, so I am feeling good, refreshed, and ready to post you on the week ahead.

Monday:  Miguel is out of town.  Something about Jimmy Buffet and Hawaii.  Still, Ben is at the helm, so no worries.  Did you know some people consider Prescott to have a Mediterranean climate.  I'm not really sure if it's true or not, but we figured in honor of the possibility we would cook up a special Mediterranean Monday Menu for you.  Falafel, Lamb, Hummus, Tomato and Goat Cheese Ravioli, Chicken Souvlaki, Fried Cauliflower, Spinach and Feta Salad, Tabouli, and a few other surprises.  Close your eyes, relax, and imagine a soft voice singing (Ímnos is tin Eleftherían) in your ear.  This is probably as close to Greece as you're going to get this October.  Jonathon Best will be playing a dinner set on our new piano.  6pm

Tuesday:  The Tuesday Night Movie...So I Married An Axe Murderer...starring Mike Meyers.  This is the film that set him up for Austin Powers superstardom, and in my opinion, it's better.  8:30pm

Wednesday:  Dust off your ears with Adam Schrader as he spins one of his DJ Revival sets.  Remember all of those great songs you forgot you loved.  Adam hasn't, and he's coming down to remind you.  7pm

Friday:  Nick Luca, from Tucson, has played and recorded with Howe Gelb, Neko Case, Calexico, and John Doe, but don't let that exactly influence your perception of Luca's sound.  This is rock music, poppy, lyrically bizarre, and entirely danceable.  It might be a little loud, but that's Rock N Roll, so come on down and help support some Arizona talent.  8pm

Saturday:  The Chris Koza Band from Minneapolis and Shri.  Chris Koza is an amazing songwriter who has played the Raven once before as a solo artist.  He's coming back, and this time he's bringing his band.  They sound a bit like Andrew Bird hanging out with Nick Drake.  Chris will start around 7pm.  Then...the blues phenomena Shri will be playing their first show in Prescott since returning from a wildly successful European tour.  Shri always brings out a big crowd, and there is a lot of dancing to be had.  Shri will start around 8:30pm

So there you have it...a week filled with film, old-school DJ's, Piano Music, Blues, Pop-Rock, Folk-Rock, and straight ahead Blues.  If that's not enough for you let me know...I'll try harder next week.

Until Again

Raven

Also...don't forget about making Halloween plans for the Raven.  Ben Dickey, Newt Lynn, Adam Schrader, and a special guest (we just have to confirm the plane ticket) will be playing.  Costume Contests, Games, Specials, and a host of other activities.

Finally...so many of you have been asking about the music we play in the Raven that I thought I might start turning you on...one album at a time.

Album of the Week:  Joe Henry "Civilians"...look it up.
