The Doggie Dude Ranch is using its upcoming Canines and Kids Halloween Yappy Hour and Costume Contest as an opportunity for foreign exchange students to learn about a classic American holiday – Halloween. The Halloween Yappy Hour will take place Wednesday, October 31, 2007 from 3:30 – 4:30 pm and will feature a costume contest and carnival games for kids and dogs.
The last happy hour was a "resounding" success in teaching teens skills for living and working.
Local teenage volunteers will be pairing up with foreign exchange students who are spending a year in the Tri-city area through Rotary International (??) to learn about America, our language, and our culture. The Halloween Yappy Hour is a chance for the foreign exchange students to learn through hands-on service as they run carnival games, an obstacle course, and a costume contest where kids, adults, and dogs will compete for prizes in the following categories: classic, best character, most original, and best pet/owner combination. To further enhance their understanding of Halloween, all of the volunteer youth will spend the evening together at a haunted house! This event supports the Doggie Dude Ranch’s “Get Social” philosophy by bringing together local youth, foreign exchange students, families, and dogs in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
