Ginger Rogers is said to have done everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels. Backwards in High Heels playwright Jim Henry uses dance as a metaphor in his exploration of the give and take, dips and turns of long-term relationships. He proposes that it is often the woman's sacrifices and endurance that hold a family together, as he explores the 60 year marriage of Michael and Genevieve Keeler—brought to life by a dance tune on an old record player.
Directed by Robin Sue Roelofs, Backwards in High Heels was developed in part at Chicago Dramatists and Chicago Street Theatre where Jim Henry is a Resident Playwright. This piece was first presented as a workshop production at Chicago Street Theatre, Valpariso, Indiana and presented as a World Premier at The Road Theatre, North Hollywood, California.
