Veteran music educator Barbara Andress will open her Prescott home to opera fans as hostess of an Opera Salon, Wednesday, November 19th. The performances will feature well-known arias by tenor James Flora and baritone John Fulton, artists at Arizona Opera’s Marion Roose Pullin Studio.
“I’m looking forward to greeting my friends and neighbors,” Barbara said. “They’ll enjoy the warm, welcoming environment. And the acoustics are ideal for the voices of these young artists.”
Andress introduced opera to elementary school kids more than 40 years ago. Her books for K-8 youngsters helped earn her a spot in the Hall of Fame of the Music Educators National Conference.
“Barbara Andress’s generous hospitality is a sure sign that the Northern League’s mission to expand live opera throughout northern Arizona is succeeding,” said President Dale Lake. “It’s quite natural that Barbara, who has invested a lifetime in music education, would be out front in helping spread the beauty of opera throughout Yavapai county.”
At Arizona Opera this season, James Flora will appear on the main stage as Spoletta in Puccini’s Tosca. In other main-stage assignments, he will cover the roles of Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love, and Ottavio in Don Giovanni.
John Fulton’s roles this season include Masetto in Don Giovanni and Sciarrone in Tosca. He will understudy the roles of Pish-Tush in The Mikado and Belcore in The Elixir of Love. Martin Majkut will provide the piano accompaniment.
Lake suggested early reservations. “With complimentary wine, savory nibbles and a chance to mingle with the artists, seats will go fast.”
Performances start at 4:30 and the per-person price of $45 ($35 for Northern League members) includes complimentary wine and appetizers. Seating is limited. For reservations call Mary Ann Dutton at 928-445-6563.
