Prescott Arizona Art Exhibitions November 2008

Prescott's thriving art scene offers several major new exhibitions this month.

Navajo Artist Al Bahe's exhibit at the Smoki Museum is a must-see for fans of Native American and Southwestern art.

Take a short drive towards downtown to find two other shows worth visiting... Downtown's Mountain Artist Gallery offers something for everyone in their "Masters Presents" showcase of eight local artists with special guest artists E.C. Wynne and Montana Blue Heron.

Nearby at the Sam Hill Warehouse, innovative Moderist Robert Colescott large scale murals provide a feast for the eyes and food for thought at the recently renovated Prescott College Art Gallery.

Smoki Museum - Painings and Artwork by Navajo Artist Al Bahe

Smoki Museum - Painings and Artwork by Navajo Artist Al Bahe

November 8th, 2008 through March 15th, 2009.

Al Bahe creates riveting visions of his Navajo (Dine) heritage. The artist himself is very soft spoken about his paintings and that is reflected in the quiet power his artwork projects. Using an extensive palette of colors, Bahe transports his viewers to beautiful, secluded landscapes. Here we meet his subjects, most commonly a Navajo Yei figure. Upon encountering these amazing canvases, viewers sense that perhaps there is something that they are meant to learn or understand from the Yei. For this exhibit, he will be creating a new series of paintings.

Central to Al Bahe’s efforts as a painter is a desire to impart knowledge of his own Navajo culture to viewers. This will be reflected in the upcoming exhibition as special text created with the artist, to give deeper information about the subjects of his artwork.
